Having these videos here on the blog gave me a better understanding on how things really occured during the eruption of Vesuvius. I think that even though these videos do not have actors that were at the site in 79 AD, they did a pretty good job of acting out the emotions that came up after seeing this once idle volcano come alive.
Q1: When in 79 AD did Vesuvius erupt?
A1: On August 24,79 AD, Vesuvius erupted.
Q2: What were the first reactions of the citizens of Pompeii and Herculaneum?
A2: At first, many of the citizens were baffled by the appearance of smoke from the volcano, because they’d never seen it erupt before. Thus, they continued on with their tasks and chores.
Q3:Question 3: How did Pliny the younger record the stages of Vesuvius eruption?
A3: Pliny the Younger recorded everything he saw from the volcano at by observing it from where he was and writing down the results. It explained the look of the gas coming from the volcano and how it dangerously affected the people.
Q4:Why is Vesuvius’ past important to present day Pompeii?
A3: With Pompeii being heavily populated today wit over 3 million people, knowing about the danger of the past can prevent less people from being killed in anther event like this in the future. People may be able to take caution if the know when Vesuvius will erupt again, which is every 2,000 years.
